Last March, photographer Reuben Krabbe realized a dream. He had a vision of traveling to the Arctic Circle to nab a ski photograph during a full solar eclipse—meeting that goal is captured in “Eclipse,” the award-winning film released today. In 2015, Reuben Krabbe and a team of skiers traveled to the Arctic Circle to ski remote mountains and shoot a total solar eclipse while doing so.

Reuben Krabbe told me that he shot his eclipse photo with a 500mm lens. I already knew that the larger the lens I used for my photo, the larger the eclipse would appear in-frame for my viewer. I had my 600mm and 2x teleconverter in waiting. 1200mm of focal length to fill my 35mm frame with solar eclipse 2017.

Battling extreme weather conditions, they made the long, arduous trek to Svalbard, one of only two places in the world where the total solar eclipse could be seen. In March of 2015, Krabbe and a team of skiers, guides, and camera crew set out to Svalbard in the high Arctic. A total solar eclipse was about to take place and Krabbe had a vision that he was determined to make real.
